Turkey - Convergence, Broadband & Internet Market
Turkey's Internet market is lowly penetration although large, due to the size of the country's population. Services are provided by a number of ISPs. Broadband services are available, with ADSL the predominant broadband delivery platform. Strong growth in ADSL uptake has been witnessed, with subscriber numbers tripling throughout 2005, following the fixed-line incumbent's focus on the service. Further growth is predicted for 2006 and beyond as the fixed-line incumbent will increase focus on broadband as a new source of revenue, in light of growing fixed-line to mobile substitution and consequent falling fixed-line levels. The country's broadcasting sector is comprised of a large number of free-to-air operators and a number of satellite and cable-based pay TV operators. Digital TV offerings are available and convergence offerings look likely to appear in the near future, given the liberalised telecoms market and growing broadband penetration. Introduction of Digital TV services are also progressing, with trials launched in February 2006.

Turkey - Key Statistics, Regulatory & Fixed Line Telecoms Overviews
Turkey's communications market holds much potential given the size of its population and its growing economy due to the country's integration with the EU. The telecoms market has been liberalised with a number of licences awarded to alternative operators and a 55% stake in the incumbent fixed-line operator privatised. The country's telecoms regulatory framework has been amended to conform to the EU's regulatory framework for communications. Despite these regulatory developments the incumbent still dominates the market although experience from other EU countries indicates it does take time to nurture competition. This report provides an introduction to Turkey's fixed-line market, covering the regulatory environment, market liberalisation and privatisation of the fixed-line incumbent, as well as the country's national and international fixed-line infrastructure and offering a wealth of statistics.
