Tokelau - Telecoms Market Overview & Statistics
A self-administering territory of New Zealand, Tokelau is one of the world's most isolated communities with one of the smallest telecommunications networks in the world. All telecom services are provided by Telecommunications Tokelau Corporation (TeleTok), a community-owned corporation established in 1996. Basic local, national and international telecom services are provided via a satellite link using the Telstra-designed DAMA-Net. There are no television broadcasts on the islands but radio broadcasts include one AM and one FM, station. Tokelau gained access to the Internet in 2002 and in 2004, the people on Fakaofo Island gained high-speed access via satellite. By 2006 international phonecards had become very popular. Please note that very few statistics are available in this report due to limited availability of information on the local telecoms market.
