 Taiwan - Broadband Market
Taiwan has rapidly become a significant player in broadband Internet access. The government has been especially busy promoting the benefits of broadband and has committed the country to being on a par with the US by 2010. By September 2003, Taiwan was ranked fourth in the world in terms of broadband penetration with 13%, up from 4% just two years earlier. By end-2007, the penetration had been lifted to around 20%. The IDC Information Society Index (ISI) rated Taiwan as having the world's best wireless Internet penetration. This report looks at the broadband side of the Internet revolution that has taken place in Taiwan.

Taiwan - Convergence & Digital Media
Taiwan has one of the highest TV penetrations in the world. In recent times, change has been the order of the day in Taiwan's television industry - the establishment of a public television system, the legalisation of private cable TV operations, the increased popularity of satellite broadcasting, the promotion of digital television, and the employment of a whole range of new digital technologies. Cable television, which has been highly fragmented in Taiwan, has started to build itself into a healthier sector. Convergence is also starting to have an impact on the industry. This report provides an overview of Taiwan's television broadcasting sector, as well as some of the major players involved.

 Taiwan - Internet Services
Internet growth has been phenomenal in Taiwan. The proportion of the population who are Internet users has exceeded 65%. Some 80% of all homes in Taiwan own PCs and around 70% of homes have Internet connections. The market has also been rapidly moving away from dial-up access to broadband, mainly on DSL subscriptions, and 62% of all Internet connections being broadband. There are a large number of ISPs (more than 180) in Taiwan, although a handful of big ones continue to dominate the market. Taiwan is the third-ranked country in Asia for e-commerce transactions. This report looks at the Internet market in Taiwan and briefly reviews some of the major ISPs.

Taiwan - Key Statistical Indicators and Telecommunications Market Overview
Taiwan has undoubtedly one of the most advanced telecommunications networks in Asia. Headed by what had been a runaway mobile sector which passed 100% penetration in early 2002 (it has since been stagnating at around 100%) and a very strong fixed-line telephone sector with a penetration of over 65%, the market continues to find new ways to grow. An important factor in this growth has been the role of government in creating a liberalised telecommunications market. First there was the strong push for competition to Chunghwa Telecom. The focus then moved to privatising the incumbent. This report provides statistics on the Taiwan telecom market and an overview of the fixed-line business.

Taiwan - Mobile Communications - Major Operators and Services
Taiwan's mobile market has been a remarkable phenomenon. By early 2002, the country had reached the milestone of one mobile service for every person on the island. This meant that it had the highest penetration of any mobile market in the world at the time. After peaking at a penetration of 114% in late 2003, the market declined in 2004/05; by 2008, penetration was sitting at around 105%. Four of the country's mobile operators, having been awarded 3G licences, were moving the market into a new development phase in 2006/07. This report takes a look at the major mobile operators in Taiwan and some of the mobile services on offer in this dynamic market.
