Slovakia's fixed-line market was liberalised following the country's entry into the European Union. Fixed-line penetration is considerably lower in Slovakia than in neighbouring Central European countries. The market is dominated by the incumbent, Slovak Telecom, though a number of interconnection agreements concluded in early 2005 promises greater participation by alternative operators.
