 Qatar - Telecoms Market Overview & Statistics
This report provides an overview of the telecommunications market in the small wealthy nation of Qatar. Incumbent operator Q-Tel has a monopoly of fixed-line, mobile and cable TV services and of Internet provision but a new telecoms law of late 2006 lays the first steps for the introduction of competition. Mobile penetration levels are well over 100% but Internet and broadband penetration are low. This report gives a brief profile of Q-Tel. Controversial news channel al Jazeera, based in Qatar, is also briefly profiled.
