Portugal - Broadband Market - Overview, Statistics & Forecasts Portugal's Internet penetration in 2006 was high even by European standards. Broadband take-up is also considerably above the European Union (EU) average, largely due to the efforts of a capable and robust regulator. Both cable and DSL are well represented, though the growth in DSL has comfortably outstripped cable since 2005. The incumbent, Portugal Telecom, and its subsidiaries control most of the DSL market, but new regulatory provisions introduced in 2005 have granted easier and cheaper access for alternative ISPs. All operators have focussed on increasing broadband speed, while the regulator has encouraged and maintained the impetus for Local Loop Unbundling (LLU). This report profiles Portugal's fixed and wireless broadband markets in 2006, providing key statistics on the retail and wholesale sectors.

Portugal - Convergence - Triple Play & Digital TV Portugal has seen considerable development in the converged services market, both in terms of revenue growth and consumer take-up. This is partly the result of a strong Internet and growing broadband base, which is expected to reach 50% households penetration by the end of 2007. Both the cable and DSL platforms have a national presence, while digital TV services have progressed well under regulatory guidance. This report introduces the major elements of the Portuguese market for converged media in 2007, presenting statistics on the cable, digital and satellite TV markets as well as data on the development of faster broadband networks and the emerging convergence of triple play services such as VoIP, VoD and IPTV.

Portugal - Mobile Market - Overview & Statistics Portugal has a sophisticated mobile market, served by three providers - TMN, Telecel and Optimus. Mobile penetration was comfortably above the European Union (EU) average in 2006, while the annual growth rate picked up considerably during the year despite the evidently saturated market. Three 3G networks were launched in 2004, and during 2006 there was a clear migration from GSM to 3G, and a stronger 3G take-up for net adds. The regulator has examined the effectiveness of competition provided by MVNOs, and though none has yet launched in Portugal Sonaecom may be obliged to open up its networks as a condition of its purchase of Portugal Telecom. This report profiles Portugal's mobile market in 2006, providing statistics on the main operators, and including a review of the key regulatory issues, a snapshot of the consumer market, and the growth of mobile data services such as SMS, Push-to-Talk (PTT) and Mobile TV.
