Marshall Islands - Telecoms Market Overview & Statistics Marshall Islands National Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has a monopoly on the provision of all telecom services in the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI). Until 2003 there was no local ISP, so Internet access was provided through a satellite link to IT&E Overseas on Guam. A digital TDMA 800 cellular service includes both fixed and mobile services and provides telephone service to some of the other islands in the Kwajalein Atoll where no fixed-line service is available. The rollout of a GSM mobile network commenced in late 2005. A potential agreement involving the Federated States of Micronesia and RMI proposes to run a fibre optic, submarine cable from Guam to Pohnpei, Kwajalein and Majuro. Please note that this report is updated infrequently due to limited availability of information on the local telecoms market.
