French Polynesia - Telecoms Market Overview & Statistics The Office des Postes et Telecommunications (OPT) provides domestic telecommunications services, mobile telephony and Internet services, while Tahiti Nui Telecommunications provides international voice services. The telecom system is quite advanced, with all the islands connected to the world networks by satellites. The islands are served by one ISP and one GSM mobile network. Broadband is available for the most populated Society Islands via a high-speed ADSL broadband. During 2004 Alcatel conducted a 3G/UMTS trial of multimedia high-speed UMTS services, such as video telephony. In September 2005 the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's international radio and television services, Radio Australia and Australia Television ABC Asia Pacific struck a deal with French Polynesia for joint delivery of broadcasting services.
