 Foxtel
Synopsis Foxtel is Australia's largest subscription television provider. Telstra holds a 50% ownership stake in the company, whilst Consolidated Media Holdings and News Corporation Ltd both share a 25% stake in the company. It sub-licenses programming to other pay TV companies for cable, satellite and microwave distribution in regional Australia, including Optus and Austar. In mid-2008 they launched its second generation, High Definition PVR service called Foxtel HD. While pay TV operators might be feeling the pinch brought on by the noise surrounding Freeview and free-to- air TV in Australia, Foxtel is fighting back with the launch of around 30 new channels at the end of 2009. Foxtel launched a raft of new features and services to its line up including free catch-up television and a range of movies available for immediate delivery to a personal computer. Foxtel NEXT GENERATION offers subscribers 12 new channels; 8 additional time shift channels; 15 High Definition channels including four dedicated HD sports channels, six new HD channels and a new movie offering including 16 dedicated movie channels tailored by genre with no advertising interruptions.
